The public has little contact with art except through organized exhibitions which are contained within both space and time. Yet such spatial and chronological limits imposed by museums and galleries are, however convenient, essentially artificial. The real life and work of an artist exists within its own flowing continuum. It is important to consider this in relation to this exhibition of the work of Felix Gonzalez-Torres, since it represents a sequal, an expansion, and an unbroken stream from his recent show at Massimo de Carlo in Milan, and in fact, from his entire life as an artist and an individual. While the exhibition must come to a close, the concepts and inspirations presented here continue to exist as part of Felix Gonzalez-Torres' ongoing reality.
A reception will be held for the artist at the gallery Saturday, October 19, from 6 to 8pm.
