On an ongoing basis, the Felix Gonzalez-Torres Foundation accepts proposals for commissioned texts. For these commissions, the Foundation is particularly interested in new models of thinking from diverse points of view by writers who have an interest in contributing their own unique reading of the work. The Foundation is also interested in encouraging writers from a wide range of disciplines to submit proposals. These potential commissioned texts need not necessarily concentrate only on Gonzalez-Torre's work, but might also engage the way that the artist's practice may have influenced an individual's thinking or relate to their research in another field. Texts which extend beyond the structure of a traditional scholarly essay are also of interest.
The Foundation reviews proposals on a rolling basis, from time to time. Authors of accepted proposals will receive a fee for their commissioned text regardless of whether the text is published. While the Foundation is interested in developing a reserve of valuable texts from which to source for potential future publications, and a part of this commission is that the writer gives permission for such a text to be published, there is no promise of publication. In the event that the Foundation would like to use the commissioned text for publication, the writer will receive an additional fee.
To submit a proposal for a commissioned text, please send your proposal to: writingproposals@felixgonzalez-torresfoundation.org. Please include the suggested length of your text.
