CENTRE D'ART CONTEMPORAIN GENÈVE
Pauline Baudry/ Renate Lorenz
The Centre d'Art Contemporain Geneve is happy to present the first important monographic exhibition of Berlin-based artists Pauline Bourdy/Renate Lorenz, available for touring starting in October 2010. The exhibition includes recent photographic and video works, as well as installations, and a selection of works by invited artists such as, for example, Zoe Leonard, Henrik Olesen, or others.
ARTWORKS
Three recent important video installations are included in the project and are presented together for the first time: « Normal Work» (2007, 16mm film /dvd, and 13 photographs),« N.O. Body» (2008, 16mm film/dvd, 47 photographs) and« Salomania » (2009, 16mm film /dvd, props, 13 photographs). In each project, the works raise questions around identity, the social body and the exhibition of historical documents. Baudry/Lorenz are interested in small or silent moments of History. They use re-enactment of the characters they study, in order to rethink the condition of exhibition, the hierarchy between artist and model, and, to some extent, the relationship between the artist using the archive material and the creator of that material. The performance takes a central part in all projects where the gender of protagonists is blurred by the use of particular performers such as cross-gender performer Werner Hirsch, performer and queer/transgender activist Wu Ingrid Tsang and choreograppher and filmmaker Yvonne Rainer.
