Untitled (Valley High School)
January 17 - 28, 2023
Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art
Visit us before the end of the month to find out how a group of Las Vegas art students chose to respond to one of the most famous conceptual artists of the twentieth century.
Last October, the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art invited students from Valley High School to create work in response to “Untitled” (L.A.) by Felix Gonzalez-Torres (1957 - 1996). The late Cuban American artist shared his private experiences of love, grief, and activism with his audience by creating inclusive participatory objects that subverted the usual expectations of museum artworks. The students’ interpretations of his ideas will be on view next to “Untitled” (L.A.) in the Barrick’s Workshop Gallery from January 17th - 28th, 2023.
Untitled (Valley High School) features paintings, sculptures, and installations by Ahtziry Alcocer-Amaro, Monica Benitez-Espinoza, Stephanie Bray, Diana Cardenas, Johanna Cooke, Craig Deaderick, Salvador Diaz-Morones, Angelique Esparza, Nakalyah Fabello, Juliana Soto Hernandez, Gloria Miranda, Kylee Mitchell, Kimberly Ordonez, Erandi Rendon, Idali Olmos Rosas, Nevaeh Sitton, Chance Smith, Ezer Soulimen, and Dafne Valderrama.
This pop-up exhibition takes place at the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art. Admission is free. Face masks are recommended. Untitled (Valley High School) was made possible through a partnership with Valley High School art educators Stephanie Bray, Chance Smith, and Alissa Ward. This project is supported by the Art Bridges Foundation.
