Denison Museum exhibition explores LGBTQ+ identities and history

GRANVILLE, Ohio—The Denison Museum presents an exhibition about LGBTQ+ identities. “About Ourselves/Inside Ourselves” explores individual artists’ depictions of the interaction between their LGBTQ+ identities and their history. The artists featured document their own stories as LGBTQ+ individuals, and provide examples that describe struggle and oppression, as well as love, resilience, and joy. “About Ourselves/Inside Ourselves” is free and open to the public at the Denison Museum (located in the Eisner Center 240 West Broadway) until Dec. 13, 2019. Hours are Monday through Friday from noon through 4 p.m. An opening reception will be held Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 6:30 p.m., followed by an artist talk titled “Looking for Solidarity: Lessons from African Feminist and LGBTQ Organizing,” with Ashley Currier, professor of women’s, gender, and sexuality studies at the University of Cincinnati. This exhibition was made possible by a wide variety of lenders who have allowed these works to be presented in the same space together.
