IN.SIGHT
The Donation Schröder
22 Nov 2024 to 06 April 2025
The exhibition IN.SIGHT is being created in honor of one of the most extensive donations in the history of the Galerie der Gegenwart: Alexander Schröder, a collector and gallery owner who grew up in Hamburg and lives in Berlin, has bequeathed an impressive collection of works by renowned contemporary artists to the Hamburger Kunsthalle. The show provides an insight into Schröder's identity as a collector. The title IN.SIGHT is borrowed from a photograph by Philippe Thomas and refers to the central themes of the exhibition. The socio-critical artistic positions from the 1970s to the present day reveal perspectives and question existing norms in relation to social spaces, architecture, gender, identity, sexuality, migration, nation-statehood and racism.
